A Level Results 2024

Caldew School students received their 2024 A Level results today and we are delighted with the achievements of our students. 

Vicki Jackson, Headteacher, said, “I would like to congratulate all of our students on achieving excellent results this year. They have worked incredibly hard and have shown a real determination to succeed. We are very proud of them”

“I would also like to thank all the teachers and support staff at Caldew School for their hard work and commitment that has helped our students be successful. Thank you also to parents and carers who have worked with us in supporting their children. I am very proud to see our Year 13 students progress to the next stage of their lives, whether this be at university, on to an apprenticeship or into the work place. I would like to take this opportunity to wish them every success.”

Mr Gaunt, Head of Sixth Form, commented, “It has been a privilege to work with this year group; they were an enthusiastic and hardworking group of students. I wish them every success in the future.”

The vast majority of Caldew School’s students will be able to attend their first choice university, and will study courses including the sciences, mathematics, engineering, computing and the arts at some of the country’s top universities.   

Vicki Jackson added, “We are very proud of our Year 13 students and what they have achieved. They have been a wonderful year group who have shown determination, resilience and a great work ethic throughout their time at Caldew School. They fully deserve these excellent results.”

Excellent results were achieved by many including standout academic performances: 

Charlie Glover who achieved 4 A* grades in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths. He will be going to Lancaster University to study Theoretical Physics.

Jonathan Bedford who achieved A* in Biology and 2 A grades in Chemistry and Geography. He will be going to study Biology at the University of Oxford.

Blythe Jackson who achieved 4 A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and EPQ. She will be going to the Durham University to study Biological Sciences.

Charlotte Bowie achieved A* in Criminology, Distinction* in Health and Social Care, A in EPQ and B in English Language. She will be going to the University of Cumbria to study Occupational Therapy.

Hattie Kerr achieved an A in Art, Distinction* in Health and Social Care, grade A in EPQ and grade B in English Language. She will be going to the Liverpool John Moores University to study Health and Social Care.

Oliver Smillie achieved an A in Business Studies and 3 Bs in Geography, Physics and Core Maths. He will be going to the University of Liverpool to study Urban Planning.

Abbie Lawson achieved grade B in Geography, Distinction* in Health and Social Care, A in AS-Level Psychology and Bs in AS-Level Art and EPQ. She will be going to Liverpool John Moores University to study Adult Nursing.

Evie Welton achieved Distinction* in Health and Social Care, 2 grade Bs in English Language & Psychology and grade A in EPQ. She will be going to the University of Cumbria to study Psychology with Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Amy Gilbertson achieved 2 grade As in Criminology and EPQ, Distinction* in Health and Social Care and grade B in Psychology.  She will be going to the University of Cumbria to study Social Work.

Zoe Fell achieved grade A* in Psychology, 3 grade Bs in in Biology, English Literature and Core Maths. She will be going to the University of Manchester to study Children’s Nursing.

Leaders have created a welcoming and supportive environment at this school. Pupils and students achieve well in their learning. They are well prepared for their next steps in education, employment and training.

Leaders provide effective careers guidance to pupils from Year 7 through to Year 13. Clear guidance, including preparation for interviews and ‘Work Ready Days’, helps pupils and students to make considered choices for their next steps.

An effective programme of personal development has been created for pupils in key stages 3 and 4. This prepares pupils well for their future, giving them opportunities to have important discussions about healthy relationships, social and moral issues.

There is a strong culture of safeguarding in place, with clear systems to record any concerns. Leaders keep safeguarding relevant to all members of the school community through regular updates, training, alerts and reminders.

Staff have high expectations for pupils’ and students’ behaviour and learning. Pupils and students behave well in lessons and around the school site. They are polite to each other and look out for others in the school.
