Letter to Sixth Form Parents 19.12.2024

December 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

As we approach Christmas, I’d like to update you on the highlights and successes of the Sixth Form from the past few months.

This week, we celebrated the excellent engagement of Sixth Form students, both with their academic studies and also with the wider life of the school. Students were rewarded for their contribution to student mentoring, reading for fluency with younger students, School Council and Sixth Form sports teams. Standout community contributions were noted for Ava for her support of the Year 7 games club, Aoife for having a significant input in the organisation of the Health and Social Care Relatives Coffee Morning and Ollie for his student support achievements.

Teachers also nominated students from Year 12 and 13 for their approach to learning. I was therefore able to honour over fifty different students who received recognition for excellent academic progress and outstanding effort in their studies in our celebration assembly.

Other highlights of the term have included Road Awareness Training delivered by Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, Health Taster sessions at the University of Cumbria, Dream Placement Induction and Training for applicants, mock Interviews by local employers and Vision & Planning sessions delivered by Hello Futures for Year 12. I’d like to thank all of our external partners for giving their time to build into our students.

Looking ahead to 2025, both Year 12 and Year 13 will have mock exams in January. Some students will also be sitting external exams which contribute towards their final grades and I wish them every success with these.

January sees deadlines for both UCAS and apprenticeship applications. We continue to support students in school but if you would like more information please get in touch.

Monday, 5th February will see the Performing Arts Department's production of Emil and the Detectives. It promises to be a captivating showcase of creativity and talent so please book tickets early if you are interested.

The Spring term will also see us launch work experience for Year 12. This takes place from 14th – 20th July and is a great opportunity for students to shape their future pathway. Please discuss this with your son or daughter as they start planning their placement.

Academically in the new term, we will be having a focus on folders and organisation. Tutors will be working with students to ensure that their notes are ready for supporting successful revision. We will also be supporting students to ensure they are maximising productivity during independent study time.

Thank you for your ongoing support. I hope you have a restful and enjoyable holiday season, and I look forward to welcoming students back in the new year, ready for another term of growth and success.

Merry Christmas

Mr Gaunt

Assistant Headteacher
