Year 7 Students Celebrate LAMDA Success
Year 7 students at Caldew School were proudly awarded their LAMDA certificates following examinations taken during the Autumn Term.
LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) qualifications are open to anyone wishing to build confidence and gain experience in speech, communication and performance. Through the process, students develop strong oracy skills and increased self-confidence.
All participating students achieved excellent results, with every student receiving either a Merit or a Distinction in Communication at Grade 1. Thanks to the generosity of funding from The Story Group, the qualification was offered free of charge to Caldew students.
Drama teacher Mrs Helen Openshaw praised the students’ commitment and progress:
“The students worked so hard and we are thrilled with the grades they have received. It was a delight to work with them and see them grow in confidence as they prepared for the exams. There was such a buzz of excitement on the day, and the fantastic results reflect the hard work the students put into their work.”
The visiting LAMDA examiners were equally impressed, describing the Caldew students as expressive and emotionally connected performers. They noted that students spoke with enthusiasm, showed care and consideration for their chosen subjects, and successfully captured the attention of their audience.
In preparation for the examinations, students also took part in a communication workshop delivered by Talk The Talk. The workshop focused on developing speaking and listening skills within a creative learning environment. Throughout the day, students were coached and supported to deliver a structured two-minute presentation on a topic they felt genuinely passionate about, which they presented confidently to their peers.
Year 11 student Tessa also has passed the introductory level to public speaking. Tessa talked about her favourite book, and also about how much she loves Christmas. Well done Tessa!
Students Margot B, Karina B, Sophie J, Scarlet B and Eliza L wrote poems on the theme ‘I have a Dream’ as part of a competition with Young Writers. We are delighted to announce that they have been successful, and will have their poems published in an anthology which comes out in March. Huge congratulations, girls!
